Biotechnology and Space

Biotechnology is the use of living cells and organisms with the purpose of obtaining and/or improving industrial products and processes.

The use of biological machines for MEMS technology, biologically based electronics, biomimetic systems for autonomy, bacteriorhodopsin based memory, and the use of living cells as sensors, processors and communication devices are among the biotechnology developments that will make human space exploration, and the development and application of space resources, commercially feasible.
