Environment and Space

The totality of circumstances surrounding an organism or group of organisms, especially the combination of external physical conditions that affect and influence the growth, development, and survival of organisms and the complex of social and cultural conditions affecting the nature of an individual or community.

Space has been and continues to be a valuable platform for the study of Earth's environment, helping to understand location and extension of problems, and to identify mitigation strategies. In the future, the use of space resources and technologies will help to reduce the use of Earth's scarce natural resources, and perhaps substitute polluting power production technologies with environmentally sustainable alternatives.
