Manufacturing and Space

Mmanufcturing is the process of fabricating products from raw materials by the use of manual or machine labor. It is usually carried out systematically with a division and assignment of labor to specific steps in the proecss. In a more limited sense, manufacturing is the fabrication or assembly of components into finished products on a relatively large scale.

Space has the potential to be a valuable resource for certain manufacturing processes due to the presence of unique conditions (e.g., high vacuum, gravity conditions other than 1-g, etc.) not typically experience or even possible on Earth. The manufacturing of off-Earth raw material could enable long-term lunar and Mars exploration scenarios. In addition, the use on Earth of some off-Earth resources, such as lunar He3, could help to mitigate scarcity of on-Earth power generation feedstocks and fuels.
